More Than. This portrait is called "More Than". The overall message I am trying to convey is that I am not just one thing. The message is supposed to show that I am more than what meets the eye. In more detail, the forest on my head represents myself growing and becoming more mature. The smoke represents my secrets and how I don't share everything about myself. The sunset represents my many emotions, and how I feel more than one thing. The words represent that I am careful about what comes out of my mouth because it stays with you forever. The shirt represents that everything you see isn't what is always the truth, this is shown since the blue shirt was not the actual shirt I wore when I took my self portrait. I used black and white for myself and the background to show that without these important things in my life that make me who I am, I am nothing. In addition, that is why I made the added on layers colorful, because they make up who I am. I used the blending mode "lighten" and "overlay" because all these things blended make up who I am, and even though it seems like I'm one thing, I'm much more. In conclusion, "More Than" shows that I am more than what meets the eye, and that I'm not just one thing. I had a lot of fun with this assignment.

Finally.I photographed myself looking off in the distance in "Finally". "Finally" is about me growing. I feel like I have grown a tremendous amount throughout this period of photography and I think my work shows this. For my background, or me, I put on a dark shirt to contrast against the white background. I also took a photo of trees near my house because I love looking here and seeing the top of the trees. I feel like I have reached a high point in my photography and photoshop. I used "curves" to bring out the shadows. I also used "brightness and contrast" to brighten the photograph.
I think the improvement is amazing between these two photographs, not only in editing, but the capturing of the photograph. I was able to play with light and create shadows since I now understand how they work. I was able to create a more realistic double exposure through this. In addition, I was able to use more tools in photoshop. I learned what different opacities meant and I was able to use "screen" to my advantage this time. In the first photograph, I look more like paper, but in the second double exposure, I feel more real and grounded. |
