I chose to photograph a glass woman, false flowers, candles, and a painting. These objects belonged to my parents when they were younger, and now they are in our house. I used false flowers and a glass woman from my mother and the painting and candle set from my father. I decided to do this because I wanted to combine my parents into one still life, since they helped mold me into the person I am today. I feel like these objects also bring a vintage feeling to the still lives, and I feel as if I am more of a classical child compared to a modern child. I took a straight shot for these photographs, because that is the angle most commonly used in older photographs. I used "vibrance" to add a vintage tone to the first photograph, and I used "brightness and contrast" to add shadows to the second still life.
I chose to create a still life of a teddy bear, a light bulb, string, and a pile of books. The reason for this setup is that I wanted to convey my childhood. Teddy bears are commonly used symbols of early life, books and light bulbs are used to convey a thirst for knowledge, and string is commonly used to convey creativity. I also opened the book to show that I am still learning and enjoy to grow with knowledge. Everything in these still lives describe who I was as a child. These still lives express who I was and who I still am. I wanted to use calm colors to express kindness and composure. I achieved this goal by using "curves" to bring down the contrast and lighten the photographs. In addition, I used "exposure" to make the photographs lighter.
