Watcher. This is my mom, Deb. I chose to photograph my mom because she is very important to me and has many different traits to her. In "Watcher" I showed her looking at herself in a mirror because she is very cautious about the way she acts. She is very cautious because she always tries to be the best mom that she can be. I used "vibrance" in photoshop to make the red shirt brighter. I also used "exposure and contrast" to add shadows to her face. I took this photograph in a bathroom with a big mirror, and took the pictures on the wall off so they wouldn't distract from my mom. I used selective focus for this photograph, having her face on the left blurred and the face of the right focused on. A challenge I had was finding the right angle that allowed me to photograph her without being seen. I took many different photograph of her at different angles. I was very proud when I got this angle by standing farther away from my mom.
Purple Man.This is my dad, Joel. I chose to photograph my dad because he is an inspiration to me. He is a doctor, and saves lives everyday. I tried to show this is "Purple Man" by having him smiling in a dark background. This represents that although he has put himself into a stressful job, he always tries to help people and make the best of a situation. I used "vibrance" to add a purple tone to the photograph and "exposure" to brighten his face. I took this photograph in front of a black background. I also took this is an area with no natural light. I used "side-lighting" to add shadows to my dad's face when I took this photograph. Lighting added a dramatic effect to this portrait. Lighting also added added a sense of mystery to my dad by having shadows shown across his face. A challenge I had was finding the right amount of shadows to cover his face. I moved the light to many different places to find a good placement for it. I accomplished adding shadows by placing the light to the side of his face, and only using that light for my portrait.

Sunshine. In "Sunshine" I photographed her smiling and having light surround her, while the rest of the picture is black. This represents that she brings positivity to everything she does, even during the darkest of times. My mother is a very interesting person and a very good mother. I used "black and white" and "exposure" to show more contrast between my mom and the background. I took her portrait in front of a black background. I also took her portrait without any natural light. I used lighting by putting light in front of the camera but behind my mom to make her hair bright. A challenge I had was having the light in the right place to make my mom's hair bright and show little strands of hair for detail. I used different amounts of light to see what brought out certain details. I accomplished adding details to her hair by putting a bright light behind her and moving to an angle that had her head block out the light.
Glory. My dad has had an impact on many people. My dad has saved many people's lives, and puts people before himself. He is a very selfless person who tries to give the best to his kids, and is very memorable. "Glory" represents this by having him be the only visible thing in the portrait. It also represents that even when I am far away, I will still think of him and admire him. I used "black and white" to lower the saturation of the photograph and turn it into a black and white portrait. I also used "levels" to darken the color of his shirt to blend with the background. In addition to the other photograph, I took this photograph in front of a black background. I also took this is an area with no natural light. Framing was very important for this portrait. I placed my dad's face in the middle of the portrait, allowing it to be the center of attention. A challenge I had was having my dad's face clearly show with little light. I had my dad move his head in many different angles. I found the right angle by having my dad turn his head to face the light source.
